Synopsis
Andreas Pum lost a leg and won a medal in the war. He still maintains a firm belief in the legitimacy of order and the authority of the state. When he himself gets caught up in the wheels of the state apparatus, he begins to reconsider his value judgements, but it is too late.
This is Joseph Roth's first novel, told in the style of a legend.
