Synopsis

Lake Constance is the landing site for hundreds of thousands of migratory birds on routes that spread out throughout the entire continent of Europe. And clearly they are very attracted by this region, from like the Bregenzer Ache to the Rhine Falls; though most of the birds just take a break here, many of choose to stay permanently. Over 300 different species of birds pass through the area, spend the winter here or build nests and breed – and over the years several of these species have become endemic to the region.

The body of water comprising the lake is so powerful that it influences the entire region in terms of climate, which is noticeably milder around the lake than in the Alpine regions visible from it. A mild climate attracts both humans and wildlife, while perhaps the most fascinating aspect of the area is that everyone appears able to co-exist peaceably.

The documentary is a journey above and below the water, a voyage to hidden shores.
